Extra curricular activities

The foundation of Galaxy Montessori shines through its unique approach to extra curricular activities. We believe each child finds greater value being educated by a professional in their designated field.

French

Dr. Montessori identified the period from 0–6 years as the critical period for acquiring language. Consistent with her philosophy, children at Galaxy Montessori participate in French language instruction each day. Even the youngest children are introduced to French through fun, interactive games and activities.

Lessons focus on French culture, and children are encouraged to work together on extended projects. French classes introduce basic vocabulary and a cultural approach to the French-speaking world. Children learn French while having fun — listening to music, playing traditional Montessori games, and engaging in movement, dance, videos, and practical conversation.

We are proud to also offer the following languages: English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin, Farsi, Spanish, Italian, and other languages based on demand.

Creative work during extra curricular time

Music & movement

Music instruction cultivates a love and understanding of music and creative movement. The music curriculum invites children to express themselves through dance, movement, and song. Students are introduced to pitch, rhythm, and the dynamics of sound, accompanied by an introduction to classical music and an appreciation for world instruments.

Movement activities allow children to explore the physical attributes of their bodies and experiment with a wide variety of physical abilities. Lessons strive to enhance each child’s physical growth and development, including eye-hand coordination, eye-foot coordination, balance, strength, and agility.

We offer piano (levels 1 through 10 as per the Royal Conservatory of Music), violin, and guitar. Music teachers typically have a professional background, often from the Ontario Music Conservatory.

Art

The art program complements the Montessori philosophy, encouraging children to express themselves through various materials. Art theory and technique are introduced through exploration and discovery, building a foundation for artistic expression and aesthetic awareness.

Special cultural studies throughout the year expand children’s knowledge of traditional art forms from around the world, and of the history of art as a whole. Art gives children a natural way to communicate thoughts, feelings, and ideas, and to develop an appreciation of the artistic process.

Weekly programs also include martial arts and yoga, with physical activity incorporated into the everyday curriculum.
