Daily schedule
Our school environment is dedicated to nurturing a child’s inherent curiosity by enabling children to explore and discover.
7:00 – 8:45 AM
Before School Program
As children arrive, the teacher personally greets them. Students may greet their friends or begin working independently with a variety of interactive materials.
8:45 – 9:00 AM
Morning Snack
Children settle in with a morning snack before circle time.
9:00 – 9:30 AM
Circle Time
Circle time is an interactive part of the learning experience. Children engage in discussions with the teacher and with other students. Calendar presentations, songs, stories, and lessons are all part of this morning circle. Although English is our primary language, Galaxy Montessori offers a strong French program. To reduce stress while learning a new language, we staff the school with a French-native professional who interacts with children and parents in French. If a child needs support, we allocate an English-speaking professional until the child is ready. We also provide French reading materials.
9:30 – 11:00 AM
Montessori Curriculum
Children explore the prepared environment, receiving individual lessons and working in group presentations. They explore math, language, sensorial, practical life, and culture.
11:00 – 11:45 AM
Recess (Outdoor)
Healthy minds and bodies need time in fresh air and sunlight. Social skills develop through cooperation, negotiation, and observation. Friendships are strengthened through play. We value physical activity as an essential daily requirement, with indoor gym space and outdoor playgrounds. On cold winter days we reduce outdoor time and increase indoor time to compensate.
11:45 AM – 12:30 PM
Lunch
Children help teachers set the table with napkins and silverware. This promotes independence, interdependence, and social grace, and creates a family atmosphere. Nurturing the spirit is every bit as important as stimulating the mind.
12:30 – 2:30 PM
Rest Period (Pre-Casa) / Montessori Work (Casa)
Children who require rest nap during this time and continue with Montessori work when they wake. Older children who do not require a nap continue working with Montessori materials or choose a quiet activity.
2:30 – 3:15 PM
Afternoon Snack
Children are free to take snacks from the snack table.
3:15 – 4:15 PM
Extra Curricular Activities
We believe children should learn with a professional in each field — just as parents expect a Montessori-trained or ECE-licensed educator during regular activities. During music, for example, the teacher is typically a separate staff member with a professional music background, often from the Ontario Music Conservatory, so children learn piano from a pianist.
4:15 – 5:00 PM
Recess (Weather Permitting)
An additional outdoor or indoor play period, depending on the weather.
5:00 – 6:00 PM
Late afternoon & pickup
While some children get ready to go home, others may choose Montessori activities, group activities, or free play.
